Day 90 says farewell to March

I'm pretty psyched to be saying farewell to March tonight. Warmer, sunnier days are so close I can practically taste them! Also, there are lots of fun travel plans in the next upcoming months, officially kicking off in April and I'm so ready to get this show on the road already! Today was more gray in Seattle, but for about 10 minutes tonight I saw a tiny, baby sliver of sunlight out yonder in the sky and I stared at it for about 5 minutes, mesmerized by it's beauty. This is kind of how I reacted when I saw snow for the first time in college. Weird how that happens. Anyway, adieu March - I'm not sad to see you go.

Day 90 is not responsible

My car was running dangerously low on gas so in between the million things I have to do today I drove over to Trenton to save twenty cents per gallon. Worth it in my opinion. Especially because of this sad sight. If you don't feel like getting out your magnifying glass to read that sign it says, "Not Responsible for Theft or Damage to Vehicles Left on Premises." No kidding. I wonder if that log behind the back tire was a last ditch attempt to discourage theft.

a gloomy, gray Day 89

This is essentially what Seattle was about today. Rain, wind, cold, gray. It's all making me feel quite melancholy. Also these gray days make time move quite slowly. Ugh! How many more days until my trip to NYC? That's all I've been looking forward to for weeks. Can't wait!

Day 89 can cook!

I really enjoy cooking, but I'm not crazy about following recipes. If there is a type of food I want to try, I look for a simple recipe that I can mostly follow while changing it a bit to make it my own. What can I say, I've always been a color outside the lines kind of girl. Tonight for dinner I made tuna steak - so easy! It's seasoned with cayenne pepper and cooked in olive oil and butter. It packs a lot of flavor! I'm getting hungry again just looking at this!

Day 88 got some aloha!

We've been getting some boxes of stuff from my mom and what we'll find in the boxes is always a surprise. This has been my favorite find so far! Yay, Hawaii music. Of course I have some local music on my computer already, but not as much as I used to have (where does all my music keep disappearing to?!). Mostly I'm happy that this CD has some of my true faves on it. I've been listening to it all night and I'm loving it. Little reminders from home make me one happy lady.

Day 88 is stress-free! For now.

I have a busy next few days leading into the weekend. Instead of tackling some of the more daunting items on my to do list I decided to use this evening to de-stress! After taking an amazingly relaxing bubble bath I gave myself a pedicure for no other reason than I wanted to. The happy color is a mix of two shades: OPI's Tickle My Francey and ULTA's Diva. I already feel re-energized! Now I'm off to an appointment with my optometrist. Relaxation and getting stuff done? I give myself a gold star for the day!

(Sidenote: Sorry to hear about your toe issues, Serena! Yes I know your name. Yes I know that might make me creepy.)

Day 87 got censored

I actually had another picture I was going to post today, but ultimately voted it to be way too gross to share. So instead, I'll tell you about it! Yay, story time! So, the sis manage to bust her toe open really nicely today. I wasn't there for the actual smashing of the toe in the door, but came home to the aftermath. I tried to help clean up the cut, but ended up just nearly passing out every time I saw blood. And there was so much blood. UGH I'm still grossed out thinking about it! Anyway, that's why I went with this picture instead. A shot from my ride home tonight post-gym. You're welcome. (ps. I wasn't driving. Promise.)

Day 87 is a gum chewer, normally.

I feel like Violet Beauregarde. I love this gum! It tastes like dessert, hence Dessert Delights. Hopefully it won't make me turn a lovely shade of minty green.

Day 86 needs a jolt

It was a lazy Sunday if I ever saw one. Lazy, lazy, lazy. I spent about 2 hours working up the energy to look at my to-do list. Then another 4 hours avoiding doing anything on that list. And I'll be finishing up the night by finding new a creative ways to continue avoiding doing any actual work at all. Unless drinking coffee counts as work, in which case... nailed it. But such are Sundays I guess. I'm conceding defeat and just going to bed having accomplished nothing more than resting. All in all, still a good day.

Day 86 will not move over

The driver of this car must be an off duty cop or a speed demon. Or both. Either way, I'm glad I only encountered this car in a parking lot and not on the highway. I'm a Sunday driver. We would not get along.

Day 85, meet the mannequins

Today I found these adventurous mannequin ladies while roaming through mall hell. And I'm glad I did because I've really been thinking about trying something new with my hair and if you ask me, the style on the right has my name written all over it. True story: at my last job I once was given the task of researching new mannequins to use for the online shops. I spent hours looking at headless, faceless, toeless (where are their toes?!) beings of all shapes and sizes. They were generally all different, but that one common thread was always that they seriously scared the shit out of me. Another interesting side note... most mannequins have names. We ended up ordering the Elizabeth, and my office eventually began to refer to her as Lizzy. "Has UPS delivered Lizzy yet?", "Hey, how did those samples fit on Lizzy?" or "Man, Lizzy looks so great in that coat." Yes, we were all crazy. :)

Day 85 loves Brooklyn brunch

Last night I went to NYC for my friend Alyssa's golden birthday. It was a blast! Then I stayed with my friend Meredith and this morning we had brunch at Cousin John's in Brooklyn. This place is amazing! I had challah french toast with fresh fruit and whipped cream. To say it was delicious is an understatement. I was so hungry it didn't stand a chance to be photographed...

Day 84 is having a good time

I had the kind of day, well week, that requires much drinking and fun time with friends. Which is happening now. Literally now. There's music playing in the background, drinks being poured and me at a computer blogging, which clearly needs to stop now. Off to the party I go! Hope you're all having a great night.

Day 84 is unappetizing

I bought a bag of Chex Muddy Buddies at the store the other day. I have only ever had them when they were made from scratch, so I was intrigued. I've been eating them and they taste pretty good! It was just today that I noticed this odd little slogan on the back, "Muddy Buddies is a bag of interesting!" What the what?! I'm not sure what "interesting" should taste like but I don't think it can be good. Let's think up a better catch phrase, okay Chex?

Day 83 doesn't get it.

I received an extra special letter in the mail today. I'll stay away from making any comments that might be construed as offensive (hey, this is a happy sharing blog after all!), but suffice to say that even with my 13 years of catholic school education, I was thoroughly offended. The best part? It opened up into this beautiful poster. Who wouldn't want this gorgeous hanging piece in their home.......... (i'm scared.)

ps. seriously though, stop sending me this stuff. it's kinda scary. kthanks.

Day 83 was awful.

I've had a rather bad day. So to spare you all some gloom here's a little sunshine I caught while coming home for the night. Apologies for the short post!

Day 82 is old school cool

I spotted this car on the corner of the building where I work as I was running into the office this morning (late. per usual.) But not late enough to not stop and take this picture. Hehe. I like this car. I like it a lot. Unpretentious and all around awesome. It looks like it's seen some great days and it just kinda oozes coolness to me. Oh an look - it was a bright and sunny day in Seattle today. Hell to the yeah! At one point it definitely hit about 68º here today. Oh hello Spring, welcome to the party.

Day 82 forgot her vitamins

I've recently started taking vitamins because I feel that it's an appropriate thing for a 25 year old to do. Anything that will help me de-stress and stay healthy is okay in my book. I've actually felt generally calmer since starting vitamin B. I know this because I forgot to take them this morning and have been in a foul mood for the rest of the day. I just took them now, so hopefully I'll get out of this mood! You're welcome for the exciting look into my life.

Day 81 is a radio star

I never really listened to the radio in new york. We streamed pandora at work, and I rocked my ipod the rest of the time I needed music. Radio? Not so much. So it only took like 7 months, but I finally found a station that doesn't make me want to rip my hair out here in Seattle. It's super campy and way mainstream, but they're fun and I can dance around to everything they play when I'm getting ready for work in the mornings. And isn't that all you really need in a radio station? (Hint: the answer is yes!)

ps. How dusty is this car?! Yikes!

Day 81 happened.

This day was bound to happen. Aislinn warned me. I've hit photographer's block! Though, I'm impressed it happened on Day 81 and not Day 10. This week has turned out to be more stressful than I anticipated. And I had an especially long day today. Glancing at the clock and realizing I didn't touch my camera today sent me into a frantic, "What the hell should I photograph!?" moment. Then I saw my "Keep Calm and Carry On" notebook, a gift from my friend Emily. It was like a little message of encouragement and a call to be a sliceof365 model. Here's hoping I keep this mantra in mind all week!

Day 80 has a sweet tooth

I'm on a bit of a diet right now and trying desperately to stay away from sweets and candies and other sugary deliciousness. If you've ever met me, you already understand the depths of anguish I'm in. A life without ice cream. I'm living a life... without... ice cream. My one true love in the world of desserts. Not helping is the insane amount of sweets we have somehow accumulated in our enormous food pantry. Every time I go in there I'm so ashamed. How did we get all this food? Canned goods and rice and granola bars and, oh yeah, brownies. Boxes of brownies. It doesn't even make sense for this many brownies to be in a single home. Oh, and guess what I can't eat right now? Brownies. Tomorrow I'm gonna throw a towel over the boxes so I don't have to see them every time I walk by. Pure.Brownie.Torture.

Day 80 is a cinephile

Tonight I went to my neighborhood Blockbuster. They are closing, thus selling cheap movies. I went a little overboard in the $1.99 section. Basically if I was slightly interested in a movie and the DVD wasn't scratched it is now in my collection. Looks like I have my next rainy day in planned out for me!

Day 79 is one cool cat

I absolutely love the farmers market by our apartment. Also now that sunny days are upon us, I'm sure we'll be there more often which I'm soooooo excited about! (Farmers markets and sunny weather, that is.) We've finally discovered that the secret time to go is around 10am on Sundays. No one is there and the whole place is ours to enjoy as we do our shopping. So perfect. Today after checking out, I spotted this cool dude. He's a regular at the market, I see him there every time we go. Today he was manning the registers, and as you can see, he takes his job very seriously. Love him!

Day 79 is upside down

Find one thing that is wrong in this picture. Hint: It's probably going to stay this way until the township gets its act together. Bigger Hint: Read the title of this post.

(Safety note: I was a passenger when I took this picture. Though, I wonder if I could've gotten a ticket for driving while photo-snapping...)

Let the Day 78 cleaning begin

Actual conversation today:
Serena: "Hey, can we put a date on the calendar for Spring cleaning?"
Me: "Ummmmmmmm.... do we have to? How about April?"
Serena: "Well, when is the first day of Spring?"
Me: "March, I think. Maybe next week."
Serena: "Okay, so we should do it then."
Me: "Nah. I'm really feeling April."

At this point my very savvy sister realizes I really have no plans to Spring clean if its on a calendar so we drop the conversation. Then 20 minutes later she comes in, and in her sweetest voice with a delightful smile on her face throws out "Hey, if you're not busy I would love if you could vacuum today. Maybe in an hour or something? But only if you're not busy." Me (without thinking first, I'm blinded by her kindess) "Yeah, sure! No problem! Of course!". And 30 minutes later I'm vacuuming and have no idea how I got there. This girl got tricks. TRICKS I tell you! (A few hours later I found myself doing laundry. Trickery.)

Day 78 spends the night in

After a long day of spring cleaning I have no energy to go out and be social. So I'm spending the night in, watching Red with my mom. I will watch anything with John Malkovich and if he's crazy, all the better. You're welcome for the free advertising, Red Box!

Day 77 just did it.

I skipped out on the gym yesterday because I was feeling what I can only describe as meh.  Tired and cranky, swamped with work and with a slight tummy ache. These were not good reasons to skip the gym and I was feeling guilty about it as soon as I decided not to go. BUT THEN I got a chance redeem myself today and make up for playing hooky! Yes, I did spend my Friday night at the gym. Please try not to be jealous of the wild and crazy life I lead.

This is the view from the 6th floor of the gym. It was a gray and rainy in Seattle today. The locals even had umbrellas which is how you know the weather is really sucky x1000. Which it definitely was. Where are you spring?

Day 77 enjoys the weather

There's no better way to celebrate the seventy degree weather than sitting in a park with my mom, drinking an iced coffee. Short post- it's too nice out to be cooped up in front of my computer! Happy weekend all!

Day 76 is in need

Fact: I do not own a mouse pad. I have no idea why I don't own one. For some reason it's never a thing I've bought. There's always just been one there whenever I need it, ya know? Yeah, not so much now. I've never been so painfully aware at how badly I need one of these in my life. FYI, manila folders and urban outfitters magazines will only do the trick for so long. Also it's not like mouse pads are pure gold and hard to come by. I'm fully aware that I can grab one at target or amazon and be done with this mess. But I never remember when I'm out shopping or browsing amazon. I remember now, at 11:45 at night just as I'm getting ready for bed. And you know what? I'd just rather go to sleep and think about this later. :)

ps. I hope you enjoy my "I'm-so-bored" doodles on this urban outfitters magazine. Clearly I have a future as an illustrator haha!

Day 76 is going out of business

There are several stores in our area that are going out of business. These signs come from Superfresh, which will be closing in the next few weeks. If you're in the market for discount produce (yikes) or grocery store fixtures, this is the sale for you! I'm mostly excited to see what they put in its place. I've got my fingers crossed for a Whole Foods!

Day 75 loves to read (again)

I know that I spend too much time in internet land. I know this because it's taken a toll on my grammar and speaking skills. Punctuation? Optional. Capitalization? Not if you don't feel like it. Abbreviating words to an almost annoying level? Yup, guilty. As fun as this is, I realize it's not good or healthy. Fewer blogs, more novels was the only clear solution. So to the books I went! A friend (whatup, VA!) recommended I check out Neil Gaiman. I'm ashamed that I had never read any of his stuff... until now. I just finished Stardust. Which I read in one night, and which I'm now reading again. It's so good, I can't wait to devour the rest of his stuff. And I feel those grammar lessons coming back to me already. Score!

Day 75 goes to the gym, I mean library

This month I'm taking a Zumba class at the Morrisville Library, of all places. No, we don't blast music and dance amongst the shelves. Class is in the basement. Also, the building used to be a church. What a fun change from a gym! Sidenote: this was taken at about 6:30pm and look how light it is! Bring it, spring!

day 74 is in the land of samples!

I work in an office of samples. I share a cube with duck presses (i'm scared), rows and rows of spatulas, french presses, tea kettles and aprons, oh my! A world of samples around me at all times. I totally lust after all these gorgeous kitchen things I can't have, but they do provide a nice distraction when I need a few minutes of not staring at my computer so no complaining here. Today I stumbled upon this box lotions and hand soaps. So many smells and colors to choose from! If I could have plopped down right in front of this box and played lotion tester for an hour, I totally would have. Best job ever.

Day 74 has a sweet tooth

Besides generally enjoying food, I have a major sweet tooth. While I do have a certain amount of self-control, how can I say no to a bowl of Swedish Fish?

Day 73 is falling behind

So this is kind of an oops. Somehow a ton of leftover airline miles (about to expire) translated into getting an absurd amount of magazines each week. We're talking 6-8 a week. Ummm.... that's too many. I don't think we realized when we signed up for some of these how frequently they'd be clogging our mailbox, and now our living room. It's simply impossible to sit and go through so many magazines in good time. Which explains the 50 or so currently covering our coffee table. The pile keeps growing and growing, and as it grows I feel less and less like going through everything. Also the waste of paper hurts my heart. Who says print is dead?

Day 73 looks different

Yesterday at Starbucks I was surprised to receive my beverage in one of the new logo cups! I'm not usually a two day in a row Starbucks kind of girl, but I really needed a pick me up this afternoon. I'm digging the new design, especially the sleeve!

Sunday, March 13, 2011

Day 72 needs a plan

In a not so passive attempt at helping me organize my life, my sister made out these little meal post-its for the week. It's been about 2 hours since I took this picture and they're still sitting there... blank... with that same sharpie staring at me. Waiting for me to just write something already. I'm telling you now, it aint happening. I'm just not programmed this way. I could write it all down, but that is time that could be spent playing Tiny Wings (the new "angry birds". If you have an iphone you need this game. trust.) or reading funny articles on theoatmeal.com. You know, the important things in life. :)

Day 72 goes to brunch

This morning I had brunch with my friend at Pat's in Newtown. For those unfamiliar, Newtown is where the classic film Signs was filmed. Jealous? Anyway, Pat's is always jamming, especially on weekends. It's totally worth the wait. Their homemade strawberry jam is incredible. Unfortunately, they were already sold out! Our waitress was able to track down some mixed berry jam, since we weren't fans of the ultra sweet peach jam everyone else was eating. Always a lovely way to spend a Sunday morning!

Day 71 wants the truth

Here's a look at the sky this afternoon in Seattle (and a tiny corner of Safeco field). See any rain up there? Nope, didn't think so. The forecast said (still says) nothing but rain here for the next 10 days. I've finally decided that weather.com is solely there to lie to me. Because you know what hasn't happened since about 2pm today? Rain. No rain. Not a single drop. Not even a tiny morsel of moisture. I mean, really. Not that I'm complaining about blue skies and some sunshine! I'm really not. I'd just rather the forecast have a big question mark there instead of these lies! Silly meteorologist.

Day 71 is intimidated by fruit

My mom bought this bad boy in Philly's Chinatown today because we saw it on Chopped. I have absolutely no idea how to prepare dragonfruit. But it looks like I'm going to find out...

Day 70 stumbles upon a Saloon

So yesterday the best and worst thing happened. I discovered that there's a pho place a 5 minute walk from where I work. ruh roh. So of course I had lunch there yesterday. And there's also a possibility that maybe I had lunch there again today..... I know I have a problem! But it's actually a nice walk. Sometimes I forgot how healthy it is to step away from the computer and into the world a few times a day. Todays discovery was the Marco Polo Saloon. Since 1950! The sign even says so. Marco! Polo! Oh Georgetown, you and your random little stores scattered about.

Day 70 would like $20 of regular, please!

Gas prices are on the rise, friends. Usually I like to be cheap and drive over to New Jersey for gas (it's at least 10 cents cheaper there). But today it was more convenient for me to get gas near my house. All I can say is, thank goodness I didn't buy that stretch Hummer I was eyeing...

on fish, two fish, Day 69 fish

There was a giant fish tank at the restaurant the sis and I had dinner at tonight. Fish tanks in restaurants always make me uncomfortable. I feel like the fish are staring at me, watching me eat. Which of course they are. Duh. H'anyway - these little orange dudes would not stay still so I could get a good (focused) picture. Thankfully our food came just as I was about to start yelling at the fish to please just stay still. Not really.... but probably. Anyway, this was the best I could do. And umm, please tell me this guy, I'll call him Roger, isn't staring at me. Because he absolutely is. Theory proven. Done.

Day 69 is still raining

Today was rainy and windy and generally gross. And it's still raining. Once I got home from work and running some errands I put on sweats and haven't moved since. It's hard to feel motivated on a day like this. Thankfully this weekend should be slightly warmer and sunny. March comes in like a lion and out like a lamb, they say...

Day 68 found the magic

Fractions in addresses will forever be magic to me. Simply magical for forever and always. Here we have this curious red door that I found today. Where will this take me? Hogwarts? The Ministry of Magic?? Godric's Hallow??! Should I open the door or simply charge into full speed?? (I won't actually do that..... i don't think....). So many questions!

Okay, harry potter geek out done. Thanks for playing! :)

Day 68 enjoys multiple viewings

Have you ever wanted to watch The Jungle Book eleven times at once?? I know I have! And now you can at the Salvation Army! So come on down!

I'm no Peggy Olson, but I think I'm on to a brilliant advertising campaign here...

Day 67 Crossing

True story: sometimes I can't get to work because there's a train crossing. Not a subway train or any kind of commuter train. Like a train carrying goods... or something. I'm not really sure. But it's old school. I realize this is probably only fascinating and strange to me because I grew up in Hawaii where there are no such trains. Every time I'm stalled behind a line of cars watching this train crawl by I have this "is this real life??" moment. Like... does this really happen in the world? It's just so weird. H'anyway. That's my story. This is the old school (maybe just to me??) Railroad Crossing sign by the tracks, I was finally able to get a picture of it today to share with you all. Choo choooo!

Day 67 doesn't need more clothes

I went shopping at Old Navy today mainly because I get an extra 10% off every Tuesday when I use my Gap credit card. Do I need any more clothes? Absolutely not. In fact, there are items in my closet that still have the tags on. But that won't stop me from seeking out a good bargain. Instead, I will donate two pieces of clothing to make room for the two I bought today. Lemons into lemonade!

Day 66 is carb lovin fool

I didn't eat all this pasta. I really, really wanted too though. Tonight I had a case of "big eyes". You know, when your eyes are bigger than your stomach when you're hungry. Yup, big eyes. I thought I was starving, so I made a lot of dinner. Then I had half a bowl of pasta and felt like if I had one more bite I'd just burst. Not quite that dramatic, but you know what I mean. So now we have a ton of leftovers for tomorrow... my big eyes punishment is that I'll be eating pasta till I can't even stand it anymore. Which I'd say is not necessarily a bad thing....

ps. Katie I love the contrast of your diet and mine. Wanna trade? :)

Day 66 has discriminating taste

Another food post, friends. I think I have a problem! This afternoon I went grocery shopping. It wasn't until I went to the cash register to check out that I noticed everything I bought was either orange or green. How often does this happen??
